On December 15, 2013 Nebaj will be holding a re-election to elect its mayor. As a concerned Ixil woman, I am working with Acción Ciudadana, an organization that promotes transparency, to plan an election observation project. I will be coordinating 75 volunteers from Nebaj to observe the election after being trained as observers.

Como seguramente ustedes están informados, CIRMA decidió de manera abrupta terminar sus labores en Guatemala. Según he sabido ha circulado ya otros pronunciamientos, pero en mi calidad de donante de los documentos compilados en la colección Figueroa Ibarra de CIRMA me he animado a ser promotor de este nuevo pronunciamiento para que la gente de Guatemala que está preocupada por los hechos, lo apoyen.

This week, GHRC kicked off our November Speaking Tour with Lorena Cabnal -- an indigenous Xinka woman and community feminist -- in Houston, Texas. After earning her degree in Community Social Psychology, Lorena co-founded the Association of Indigenous Women of Santa María Xalapán (AMISMAXAJ) in 2003.

Juanmi is going through difficult times due to serious health complications that appeared suddenly. After consulting several specialists, who performed MRIs and EEG, the conclusion of more than 4 doctors was that it was a benign tumor in his brain and that the next step would be a biopsy. The surgery took place on Tuesday 17 September at Hermano Pedro Hospital by Dr. Jaime Hernandez.

I invite you to join me in telling Alejandro’s story, which is part of my new documentary, Abuelos y Nietos Juntos: Two Generations Together; a film about the transformational journey of a group of US citizen children who travel from Minnesota to Guatemala, to visit their parents homeland and to meet their grandparents, for the first time. My crew and I filmed the families in Minnesota and Guatemala and we were able to documented this entire emotional pilgrimage. We are now hard at work editing the documentary and we need your help to finish it and share it with the world.

On Friday, September 20, a Honduran Court ordered that internationally respected Indigenous leader Berta Caceres, the Coordinator of the Lenca organization COPINH, be jailed. The court also ordered that Aureliano Molina and Tomas Gomez, also COPINH leaders, be subject to alternative measures to imprisonment and that all three of these leaders face trial for bogus charges aimed at silencing Indigenous resistance to the neoliberal privatization agenda being imposed by military force on Honduras.
